Tirawa Atius is the great eternal God who created all things and supplies the needs of all creatures. He made the Milky Way, a Path of the Departing Spirits,. And East of the Milky Way he made Male Spirit, and to the west Female spirit, each called Morning and Evening Star respectively. From the earliest morning to the late evening Morning Star chases Evening Star in order to make love to her. But Evening Star throws obstacles in his way but stays visible to tease him, and make him continue the chase. Here are the obstacles that Evening Star put up:
The great Chaos, wild and waste, heaving below them, with a serpent large and dangerous riding the waves. The Morning Star threw a great ball of fire at the Serpent which fled beneath the waves. The fire ball struck the Chaos and stream hissed into the sky. Where the water had been was now dried rock. Morning Star liked what he saw so he threw a pebble into the Chaos and that created the earth.
Tirawa who was watching all this with admusement appointed four sentinals to guard the earth: North, East, South and West.
